The University of Technology, Sydney is pleased to announce the winning proposal from its Building 1 & 2 Podium Extension Design Competition. The winning architect is Sydney-based practice Lacoste + Stevenson, in association with Daryl Jackson Robin Dyke.

Lacoste + Stevenson’s proposal was selected as part of a two-stage design excellence competition process, run by the University. Five architects, all Australian, were selected to participate in Stage 2 of the competition.
The competition Assessment Panel comprised representatives from UTS, the City of Sydney and the NSW Department of Planning. The Stage 2 competition ran from 14 December 2009 to 15 February 2010.

UTS is now in the process of determining the phasing of the project. The university will provide an update on project timing in the near future.

The Building 1 and Building 2 Podium Extension creates a unique opportunity for UTS to re-image the entry to its most prominent landmark and in doing so re-image the university itself.

The UTS City Campus Master Plan articulates specific aims for the extension of Buildings 1 and 2. The aims include an architecturally distinguished building at this gateway site, a new front door to the heart of the campus, increased permeability of the campus, shopfronts and transparency of buildings at their edge.
